Tomorrow is the Big Day!

It's the day AF is due to arrive!!! I am planning on taking my last CBEPT tomorrow morning, as well as purchasing some digitals when I get out of work (CBE digital - unless anyone recommends anything better) and, hopefully, by the end of the week we will have a better idea of whether this cycle was a bust or not...

I am so freakin' nervous!!!!! Ever since my first faint positive came up, thoughts have been running through my head at a million miles per hour... If this is it, are we ready? Will we be able to actually do this? How about the continuation of my career? Only time will tell... But I guess the first question to answer will be if we will be opening a new chapter in our lives in about 8 months or so... Eeeeeeek!!!!!

In Limbo

I have already taken 3 AHPG and keep getting very faint pluses. I couldn't hold out until this morning and tested last night too... Here is last night's result.

In all the tests I have taken, both the horizontal and vertical line in the plus are faint, but the test window is nice and dark (these are CBEPG for early testing). AF is due to arrive on Wednesday, so I think I will save a test for then, and also get a box of digitals as well. I don't know if it's me or the batch of CBEPG 8 got... But my results are strange...

Here is today's result...

I have no idea what is going on... Are these tests bad? Am I having a CP... I hope I find out soon :-/

I don't want to get my hopes up...

After getting home on Friday, I proceeded to POAS I had just purchased. I got a 4-pack of ClearBlue easy early predictions (they were on sale), and went for it.

This is what I got...

I don't know what to make of this... I mean, is that a plus or a minus? I POAS kinda early, so I am waiting a bit more before shooting off the fireworks.

So, I have patiently waited all weekend, and plan to test again tomorrow morning with some FMU. Wish me luck... :-/

On a side note, Congrats to Cactus Bud on her BFP!!! Maybe we'll be month twins ;)

Signs

My 2WW is turning into an M. Night Shyamalamadingdong movie, I swear.

Yesterday was 2dp5dt. I think I might've felt faint cramps. I think my stomach might've been like .1% queasy after dinner. Coincidence? If I didn't have two embies in me, I probably wouldn't have noticed a thing.

But then I went to brush my teeth before bed and gagged when using my tongue scraper.

That never happens...

Oh wait, it used to happen all the time when I had my "for reals" pregnancy. I never had morning sickness, but my gag reflect was super sharp and I had to be careful when brushing my teeth.

I'd completely forgotten about that symptom until it happened last night.

Hmmm.

And then I woke up around 4am this morning and never did go back to sleep. In fact, I was wide awake. That hasn't happened since...

...since I was really pregnant.

And so this morning I POAS'd. And I swear I saw the faintest outline of a line. Maybe it was an evap. But I didn't see that shadow on my pee sticks from yesterday (yes, I peed on three sticks yesterday--so sue me!)

All these symptoms are strangely coincidental, no?

Swing away...

Why can't I stop?

Seriously, I POAS a little while ago. I'm 6 weeks pregnant. I have no business POAS. But the week and a half between appointments to see the heartbeat has me in a total panic today.

The line isn't getting any darker. Granted, it's darker than the control line. A lot. But I thought maybe by now, the control line would have disappeared entirely.

I'm a total freak, I know. But I'm still having a hard time accepting this as real. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. I have horrible dreams every night about something bad happening and I tp check every time I go to the bathroom.

I really want to relax and enjoy this pregnancy but I'm having such a hard time doing so.

November 23, 2010

Put the tests down!!!

Because I still refuse to believe this is real and I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop, I've been testing.... and testing.... and testing.

But I think once you reach the point where your test line is darker than your control line... it's time to stop. This one is from a few days ago.... the one I did tonight the control line is barely visible.

I also did one of those Clear Blue digital tests that have the Conception Indicator tonight. It said 3+ on it which = 5 weeks.

Hoping that means I'm going to have a really super great incredible beta number tomorrow!!!

So far, I'm not feeling much. For a bit there I was wondering if I was imagining the tests! But today I woke up with a twinge of morning sickness which proceeded to get worse throughout the day, peaking this evening. Once I ate, I felt much better. I'm also just tired. Very very very tired.

I've had horrible dreams of waking up bleeding and miscarrying. I just need to get passed those first couple ultrasounds so I can feel better about this.

Mr. Sunflower Bud is 100% convinced that it's twins. I'm leaning towards singleton.

We did make a deal though.... twins = we'll find out the gender... singleton = gender is a surprise!

November 16, 2010

And we have doubling!

I had to go in for a repeat beta today, only 24 hours later because we're leaving for vacation tomorrow. They weren't expecting much, just hoping for a rise.

Well, we got a rise.

25!! A little over double in 24 hours!!! Squeeeeeee!!!

I POAS again this afternoon and my line was even darker. There was definitely no squinting needed at all.

Symptoms so far are some nausea, fatique, lots of cramps and serious gas. But I am so incredibly thankful for each and every one of those!!!

Starting Over

I think it is safe to welcome AF back for another visit... as she has just arrived (not totally, but I am spotting pretty heavily, so I can pretty much bet that she is here to stay). I kind of had a feeling, because my temp dropped slightly this morning... not below the line, but it did somewhat drop from where it had been hanging out...

I was staying positive after my BFN on Friday, when I POAS on 13dpo (I wanted to post about that today, but AF beat me too it)... I knew it was to early to test, but I just had to! Even Fertility Friend told me to wait until 18dpo, which would've been this Wednesday (I was 16dpo today), but now I have a couple of sticks, waiting to get peed on, that will just have to wait! The good thing is I got an OPK with my sticks, so I will give it a whirl this month, and see how it goes...

We will probably be welcoming a new cycle soon, TTC Cycle#2, for Mr. DBud and I. I am feeling ok about it. I felt really good about the progress we made this month, and thought that maybe, just maybe, it would've been the month... but I am sure you may recall my post where I mentioned not getting my hopes up about TTC Cycle#1 (actually, there might be multiple, because I have mentioned this a few times). We will just try again, and try to stay positive, even if it takes longer than we would like... the least we can do is try, and keep our chins us. Nothing wrong with practicing the BD in the meantime ;)

I wanted to take a moment to tell my fellow Buds, dealing with their own Fertility Issues that I am thinking of you, and praying for you. We are all in this together... we are all in different places in our TTC Journey, but we are all here for the same reason, and we all understand each other. I am sending positive vibes and baby dust to all of you! Sooner or later, it will be y(our) turn :)

October 14, 2010

You might think I'm nuts!

In my last post, I described the symptoms I'm having during my 2WW. As of the other day, I hadn't experienced the very first pregnancy symptom I had in my last cycle, so I didn't mention it in my last post, and the symptom is so kooky that I was kind of afraid to mention it. Until it happened today.

Let me explain.

I am not a gifted singer by any means, but that doesn't stop me from singing to the Glee soundtrack whenever I commute. And by some miracle I can hit the Lea Michele high notes. It's nothing I'd ever do in front of a human being, but in a car by myself I admit that I sing all the way to work and all the way home.

Want to know the first sign I had that I was pregnant for my first donor cycle?

I couldn't hit the high notes.

It was the strangest thing. It's like my voice just gave out in the higher range (or whatever the right term is--forgive me Diva Bud!) That literally was the first sign that something was different from all my other IVFs. I can't remember how many days after the 3DT it was but it was sometime between 1 and 8 days post 3dt.

Now before you go blaming the supplemental estrogen and PIO I was taking, let me explain further:

Even after my loss, when my HCG was positive for a couple months, I still couldn't sing. I wasn't on PIO, and I wasn't on estrogen. After my second D&C I noticed that my high voice returned.

So of course with this cycle I was waiting for the voice change and have been singing my heart out during my commute. My voice was actually quite effortless and I was hitting higher notes than usual (I'm sure I sounded like a cat in heat, but you get my drift). Even as of this morning I was on fire.

And then around 7:30 this evening I drove to a restaurant to get take-out. I wasn't even thinking about my voice, but I went to hit a high note and couldn't. I rushed home to look at the HPT that I'd peed on around 6:30pm. I'd thrown it in the trash because it looked negative, but upon very very very close inspection, I think I might see a line. We're talking massive magnification (strong glasses + strong contacts + bright lights). Yeah it could be an evap line, but none of the other 2 in the trash (from this morning and last night) show the same line.

I may be hallucinating AND delusional. I'm still prepared for the worst, but I'm feeling hopeful tonight.

Will let you know tomorrow.

I should be happier...

My embryo transfer was yesterday and I now commence what I call the "5 day wait." That's because I will start peeing on a stick (POAS) in 5 days. I don't get all the angst about not POASing before beta (blood pregnancy test). I've had enough painful phone calls in my IF journey. If I'm going to get a BFN, I want to find out before the phone rings.

Yesterday's ET was flawless, the best of the four I've had. I had been hoping and praying that my favorite doctor (not my usual RE) would do the procedure, and sure enough, he was there. Talk about fate--he said he wasn't originally scheduled to work yesterday. I'd only met him once before, during my second IVF, and he'd shown amazing compassion. He was no different yesterday. He knew about my loss and about my difficult transfer last time. He also asked how I felt about transferring a single embryo. I wasn't expecting to be asked - it was good to talk it through with him and although I qualify for transferring 2, in the end, we agreed on one.

Somehow all the stars aligned yesterday--we had a perfect, highest-grade blast, the transfer took all of about 5 minutes, and my bladder was tolerable (usually the most painful part of the transfer process). My secret fear about my cervix being blocked by scar tissue did not materialize.

So why am I not ecstatic? Because we only ended up with 5 embryos to freeze. Yes, 5 is way better than 0, but for a record cycle for our donor with 38 eggs, we also had a record low number of frosties. This is the second donor cycle where our donor had her worst performance ever.

I expect to POAS this Friday. I know it's early--5dp5dt--but I got my positive in my last cycle at 8dp3dt, and I'd always wondered if I would have gotten a positive the day before. (In case you were wondering, 5dp5dt=10dpo, and 8dp3dt=11dpo.) The blood test will be 10/20 at 8:45am, which is 15dpo.

In other news, Mr. GB's parents are coming to town on Thursday. They are living proof of what happens when you have a child in your forties:  they are nearly old enough to be his grandparents. That's going to be us someday, for better or worse.

Til Friday,
Golden Bud

Answers!

On Friday, after 8 days of negative tests, (on 15DPO), Mr. Magnolia Bud and I found out what was up! I tested (again) after work, and the first test was clearly positive. So were the second, third, fourth, and fifth...all different brands.

Baby Magnolia Bud is on the way!!! S/he will be here on/about June 2, 2011, and we are both over the moon with excitement and anticipation!

I learned my lesson about early testing--I think I used 13 internet cheapies in those 8 days, plus at least six early response tests. With Baby #2, I really need to learn what patience is!

I'm really looking forward to sharing the pregnancy part of this journey with you. Thanks to all of you for your support over the last month that I've been sharing our story with you.

Lots of love and baby dust,
Magnolia Bud and Baby Magnolia Bud

Incompatible with life

I was going to wait to post this tomorrow, but I’m getting tired of reliving the past. I want to look forward, not back! So I’m going to post this tonight and finish up my story tomorrow. After that, I can AW about our latest donor cycle.

**WARNING**In this post I talk about the difficult subject of termination for medical purposes. Not everyone will be comfortable reading this, nor will everyone agree with our decision. You might also notice that I approach this post with humor and acceptance. Forgive me if I seem uncaring. This is a side-effect of my sunny outlook, my sense of humor, and the healing that’s taken place these past few months.***

Despite all the bad feelings I’d had about the cycle, I wasn’t surprised to get a BFP. At 7dp3dt I’d had really mild cramps all day long. I never get cramps before AF, and I’d never had cramps for any previous cycle, so I took the cramps as a good sign. I also received a batch of 50 cheapie pregnancy tests from Amazon that day, so I decided to test in the morning, or 8dp3dt.

Sure enough, the next morning I got a faint second line on an HPT. To rule out an evap line, I had Mr. GB get out of bed, pee in a cup, and watch while I tested his pee. He got a BFN. (For the record, I am a big advocate of POASing, and I would’ve done so sooner if I’d had HPTs in my possession.)

Fast forward past a few ultrasounds at the RE’s office. Despite my high betas, I admit I was disappointed to only have a singleton, because I knew we’d have to repeat the donor process (and expense) if we wanted siblings. At the same time I felt very lucky to have no morning sickness or fatigue. There were many times I’d forgotten I was pregnant. My mom was the same way with me, so I wasn’t worried. We even met my mom in Las Vegas for a short vacation and broke the news. She was thrilled, of course. We swore her to secrecy. Or so we thought.

Fast forward to my first OB appointment at 11 weeks. Yuck. Coming from a fancy-pants RE clinic to this OB’s office was like a culture shock. The waiting room furniture was uncomfortable, there were no magazines, and the décor was dated. The paperwork had no place for me to indicate that I’d used IVF, let alone an egg donor. The nurse kept asking me when my last menstrual period was, and I had to explain to her that my LMP was irrelevant and that she should use the donor’s LMP. She also asked me if I wanted genetic testing for cystic fibrosis. Clearly she was clueless both about IF and donor eggs. And don’t get me started on her gender predictions based on the Doppler heart rate. The doctor was equally uninspiring. I hated being treated like a pregnant fertile in an assembly line. I was ready to get out of there.

I vowed to find an infertile-friendly OB just as soon as I got my referral for an NT scan at 12 weeks. To me, the NT scan was a big milestone. Technically I didn’t need one because our donor was 28 and not AMA, but I wanted one anyway—I wanted to revel in the magic of high-tech ultrasound equipment and get my hands on the DVD they give you at the end.

Per my usual impatience, I booked the appointment on the early side of the NT scan window (11 weeks & some days) at a Maternal Fetal Medicine clinic at a local hospital. (MFMs see high-risk patients and have better-than-average ultrasound equipment.) The MFM’s office was also an upgrade over the trashy OB’s office in the same hospital complex. The MFM paperwork had questions about IVF treatments and a nice little “Donor Egg” checkbox. I was happy.

The exam room was also lovely, with twinkling lights on the ceiling. Didn’t see the doctor at first, just the technician and nurse. The ultrasound was my first experience abdominal ultrasounds--the RE is all about the vag-cam, which is a different experience altogether. It was weird keeping my pants on.

Long story short: at some point I was asked to go empty my bladder and return to the room for a vag-cam for a closer look (so I got to take my pants off after all). Ladies, I’m telling you, if this happens to you, it’s probably not good news. I’d seen the technician do the NT fold measurement and the number looked good to me, so I had no idea WTF was going on. So I pee, come back, meet the MFM’s vag-cam, and the technician resumes looking at the baby’s head. Finally she says she needs to go find the doctor. I ask her if everything is ok and she said she’s having trouble seeing the baby’s head.

At this point she stepped out of the room and left me and Mr. GB to hug and try to deal with this news. A few minutes later the doctor (a very nice woman) and a genetic counselor come to talk to us. They told us that the baby has a severe neural tube defect that was incompatible with life. Basically the baby had a brain but no skull. Our choices were to terminate or continue the pregnancy knowing that the baby would not survive.

As you can imagine, this news was terribly upsetting. But I knew there was no way I could continue the pregnancy, so we made arrangements for a D&E the following week.

Alrighty, that’s enough for today. I’ll try to wrap up my history in the next post.

So ashamed of mysef.

I ordered a bunch of internet cheapie tests on amazon.com Saturday. I wasted a lot of money last month testing and didn't want to again this month. Well, they came in the mail today!

So I did what any normal (read: Not) person who has been TTC for a long time would do.

I POAS!!!

At 7dpo.

In the evening.

*hands head in shame*

It was BFN, of course. I wasn't upset at all. I completely knew it would be. I just couldn't help the compulsion of ripping open a new package of 25 pregnancy tests and not pee on one of them! I mean, come on, go look at that chart! It's a beauty so far!

Had my 7dpo blood draw today though. As of 4:30pm, the RE's office still didn't have the results. Here's hoping they have them tomorrow and that I had a super good ovulation, especially since it was so freaking early for me.

Can't wait to wake up and POAS tomorrow morning! :)

June 13, 2010

its official...

we are pregnant!

I am excited but yet EXTREMELY scared. Since I POAS Every time I use the restroom I am petrified of seeing blood on the toilet paper.

We were on a break this cycle (you could read on it here) but I was still using OPK's so that I had an idea where I was in my cycle. After ovulation this cycle, I had some cramps on and off which I normally do not have and creamy cm, then 8 dpo I started to smell any food from like a mile away! especially yogurts.

On Wednesday night I caved and tested on the cheap amazon tests and it had a very faint line. Yes, I know a line is a line but I was still in doubt. Then speaking to a good friend she convinced me to test with a digital on Thursday and that's when I saw this....

Tomorrow I have my first beta BW and then again on Tuesday. the second set. I'm hoping to have some great news before our destination wedding that we have this weekend. I already told my DH even if the beta's come back great we are not telling anyone of our family on this vacation. With our last bfp we had some great numbers and we still m/c. I have been using progesterone supp since 3dpo and am hoping this is it for us.

Any little prayer would be great :)

Over analyzing

I'm really really really trying not to think too hard on this but I'm having these on and off cramps in my lower abdominal and if I stretch too fast it feels like I'm pulling a muscle. I keep thinking maybe I am pregnant, but then I also keep thinking that maybe its my body still recovering from the bacteria/uti... Ugh...

Today I received my Cheap internet pregnancy tests and as of today its a - (but its still way too early).

Have a great weekend, hopefully Monday will bring better news,

A Christmas Blessing

"For this child I have prayed, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of Him."
1 Samuel 1:27

Yesterday was Mr. Blessed Bud's Birthday and at 15DPIUI, he kept harassing me about POAS, so I got a FRER (First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test) Saturday night. I took the FRER before church and when the results came up Mr. Blessed Bud and I couldn't have been more thankful.

My Beta is today at 11:30am, and I am praying that all is well. Any Thoughts & Prayers you guys could spare would be greatly appreciated. Because of our history Mr. Blessed Bud does NOT want to tell any family or friends until after the First Trimester God willing. This has turned out to be a very Blessed Christmas!

Until Next Time,

BFP!!!!

So I wasn't going to POAS until Saturday morning at the earliest. That didn't last. I've been so cranky and irritable the last couple days. This morning before taking my shower I remembered that I had a couple OPKs sitting around. I know some people have luck using them as HPT, so I decided, why not? I tested and then took my shower. When I came out I noticed two very solid lines. Being I had a digital test sitting around, I decided to confirm with that. After waiting for what seemed like forever, pregnant showed up.
DH and I are excited, nervous, scared and thrilled. Baby Daisy Bud is due July 20th. :)

Happy 2nd Anniversary to Us!

I've been a bad blogger but I didn't want to jump the gun on any details until I knew what the final outcome was. So here's the story......

Last Monday, I went in for my P4 blood work I got the results back on Wednesday. They were really low @ 6.5. They should have been at 15+ on a medicated cycle or at least above 10 which is what you need in order to sustain a healthy pregnancy. I was crushed. I thought it was over and the cycle had failed. I had been very negative about the whole thing and really tried not to think too much about it. Anyway....The nurse that called to give me my results called back after speaking with my RE and they decided to put me on P4 supplements.

I was to pick them up the next day. Thursday, which was 11dpt. I had already put it in my calender that I would test at 11dpt because I had heard the trigger only stays in your system for 10 days. So that morning I woke up and POAS.

The result....

I honestly thought I was hallucinating.
Once I got home from picking up my P4 supplements at the RE's office, I told Mr. LoveBud. He then proceeded to sing "We Are the Champions" in honor of his "boys" and hugged and kissed me. He was very excited. Since the RE's nurse was not there when I picked up the supps. I called and left a message regarding the HPT. The nurse called back and told me it was most likely a false positive. Totally bummed. I then spent several hours googling how long the trigger stays in your system.
Google is the enemy.
But, in an effort to be proactive, the next day I went and bought two digitals before a wedding rehearsal and promptly stopped at my nearest Staples and took the first one. The result....

That was followed by another digi the next day and 2 more Dollar Store tests in the days following. All with the same result. So, yesterday I went for my beta. Today, I took Dollar Store test #3 (obsessive much? I think so) at about 7am and waited all day for the nurse to call....

at 3:00pm she finally did and what better day than our anniversary to find out that my beta came in at 102!
My P4 went up to 23.9!

We are cautiously thrilled beyond belief! After 18 long months....finally?! Really?!

I keep looking at the tests just to reassure myself.

I got in for another beta on Friday and if all is well we should have our first u/s by 11.23

Aside from the readers here, my DH, my BFF's and my aunt, we haven't told anyone and really want to wait until after our first u/s to tell the family. We'll probably wait until Christmas to tell the rest of our friends.

We're just praying for this baby to stick around for the next 8 months or so. We'd really like to meet him/her. :) Any sticky dust you can spare would be greatly appreciated!

Implantation Spotting.. Hopefully

Today marks 9DPO and my body is playing games with me, I dunno if its a mental thing or what.

After ovulation I had strong cramps
for 4-5 days and then on and off for the past couple of days. Yesterday I was starving alllllllll day and when I would eat I would not get full so that already had me in cloud 9 thinking that there was a possibility that I was KU. As soon as I got home I had to POAS, I know I know its kind of early but I could not resists. It was a very very faint line, but I really did not want to count on this almost not there line. A line is a line, but that was a very very faint, it actually looked like the line was already there before I tested.

I went to FertilityFriend.com and checked out their OPK gallery and look what I
found:

Then this morning when I went to the restroom I had some very light brownish spotting and I just kept thinking great AF is going to show up early. AF has never shown up early, she is always here on the 27th day why would she show up early? Later in the morning when I used the restroom the spotting was gone.

Could this have been Implantation spotting? It does happen around 9 DPO.

I really hope this is our month, tomorrow I am going to test with FMU and I will let you know!
