Mr. Explorer Bud and I had our 20 week ultrasound and are excited to announce what we are having........
The little guy looked great in the ultrasound and was very calm. He is measuring a week ahead and all his organs and measurements look good.
As for other pregnancy related things, I think I have finally started to feel the little guy moving around the past two days which is really fun. It kinda feels like sideways bubbles moving around my stomach!! Last week we started our Hypnobabies class and have been enjoying that and doing lots and lots of practice my self-hypnosis.
I have been feeling great and am working on eating healthy to prepare for a good labor!!!

A sigh of relief...I have reached the 1/2 way point! My next milestone will be 24 weeks when the pregnancy is "viable." Kind of a cold term when talking about whether or not your would survive outside the womb.
Everything is going well. No nausea, heartburn, swelling. I have noticed that my wedding rings are getting a little snug from the weight gain though...I have ceased looking at the scale. My eating habits aren't unruly but in an office full of women, there's always something to snack on. And we've all been under a lot of stress with this new computer system. But I'm trying to incorporate more fruits and yogurt to help balance out the snacking. I'll be taking a belly picture this week so I'll try to post one. Maybe a before (10weeks is as close a one as I have) and an "after."
I'm feeling LO moving a lot more lately and my mom got to feel him move for the first time this past Saturday. She was so cute! =o) Mr. CB hasn't felt him move yet but then again we haven't been able to see each other much lately. He's off next week so hopefully he will get the opportunity. We plan to start discussing nursery plans too! My doctor's office is closed for Good Friday so my mom and I are going to work on my baby registry. I feel like I've waited so long for this and it's kind of surreal to finally get to be able to do these things. Surreal but absolutely wonderful!

Yesterday we had our 20 week ultrasound. Mr Lucky Bud came with me and we dropped off the kids at his sisters house. I was pretty anxious, nervous and excited to be able to have the ultrasound. It was a bummer that the technician would not turn the screen until all of her measurements were done. I had to wait for about a half hour of Mr Lucky Bud saying, "oh, that is so awesome!" before I got to see what was going on too. She was moving around like crazy. I could even see her mouth opening and closing, and it looked like she was swallowing. The technical said that it looks like our baby is 11 ounces. We should get the results of the ultrasound tomorrow, so hopefully there will be nothing to report.
I can't believe I am halfway through my pregnancy all ready! Before 20 weeks, the baby is measured from head to rump, but after 20 weeks it is head to heel..so at 20 weeks it is 10 inches long, head to heel. I was holding up a ruler to show Mr. Lucky Bud today, and I can't believe how big she is!
I had been doing great week 19 symptom wise, but was also very careful that week about eating enough and getting lots of protein. I got kind of caught up with some projects early on in the week and did not take as much care and did not get enough protein, and I went back to feeling awful. I have been working hard to focus again on my diet, but it is still taking some time to feel good again. I am showing a little more than I was a couple weeks ago, and have gained more weight, so I am a total of 10 lbs over what I normally am and that is great!
I can feel the baby moving all the time now. Especially because during the ultrasound I was able to see when she was moving and to associate it to how it felt, so now I can tell the difference a lot better between kicks and my stomach growling, or air bubbles. She moves so much now, but it is not uncomfortable because there is plenty of space in their. If she keeps up all the action though, it is going to be hard to sleep at night as she gets bigger and there is less space!
Over all, this is a very fun and exciting time. I am feeling pretty good, I am not big and uncomfortable yet, I have had the great reassurance of getting to see my baby on the ultrasound, we know that it is a girl, we are meeting the donors this weekend, so things are great right now!
...still hoping to have an ultrasound pic up soon. I need to have it scanned at Mr Lucky Buds work.
BTW, Just an interesting fact: My mom did not realize that she was pregnant with her 6th and final child until she was 20 weeks and could feel that baby moving. That is crazy! She is lucky though. It must have been a fast pregnancy!

(Image credit: http://humanities.byu.edu/elc/student/idioms/idioms/over_hill.html)How far along: 20 weeks 5 days
Total weight change: +8 if you go by my scale at home, +6.5 if you go by the doctors office. I'm going by the doctors office, lol.
Maternity clothes: Pretty much all the time.
Stretch Marks: No, but I found a varicose vein. Boo!
Movement: He gave me a few good thumps a few days ago, but has been pretty inactive since. I'm still feeling a little something each day, but its less than before. Not liking this. I'm trying to remind myself that it's still early for regular movement and that there is a good chance he's facing the wrong way or something.

Sleep: Still up about 3 times a night for the bathroom.
Best Moment This Past Week: Crossing the halfway point in the pregnancy. Half baked, baby!
Most Difficult Moment This Past Week: Just the lessening of movement. He's still moving though, so in the scheme of things it really hasn't been difficult.
Belly Button In or Out: Definitely still in
Cravings/Aversions: Food. Especially ice cream.

Half Baked, Baby!
So incredibly excited to get to this milestone. It seemed so unattainable before and now, here we are, halfway. Baby is also a freakin' melon for the first time in my fruit ticker, which is exciting and a little scary all at once. The ironic thing is that I can't stand melons, and I'll be seeing a lot of them from here on out.
Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day Weekend!

20 week update

20 weeks! Halfway through this pregnancy! I'm shocked at how quickly this baby is growing, and how fast this pregnancy seems to be going.
We had our 20-week midwife appointment this week. We talked about going to concerts (ok), whether we'll be circumcising if we have a boy (yes, and got a referral to a mohel), weight gain (10lbs at 20 weeks, which is right on track), movement (my placenta is in the front, so it will most likely be another few weeks before we feel baby consistently), and birth classes (going great, we started on Monday). My uterus is about an inch above my belly button, and I'll tell you what--it's so weird to hear my stomach rumbling from midway between my belly button and ribcage when I'm so used to hearing it tell me it's hungry down near my bladder! Even precious Magnolia Cat looked at me oddly when it grumbled during petting time last night!
We also started childbirth classes on Monday. There are 7 other couples in the class, and we're taking an 8-week series focused on natural birth. The first class was great--we did some get-to-know-each-other exercises, did a quick relaxation exercise, and watched three birth videos. Seeing a placenta on video is not for the faint of heart! Everyone in the class is between 20 and 27 weeks, so it's nice to have a group of people going through the same things we are, at roughly the same times.
Hope you all have a great week! Sending lots of love and baby dust to each of you...

*breathes* 20 weeks!!! FINALLY!! I swear time has been dragging by. Hopefully, it will speed up a bit more now.
Baby has been very active at nighttime now, kicking up a storm and doing all kinds of somersaults and stretching himself out as straight as he can go. The only person who has felt it so far has been the cat who was irritated at being kicked while she was laying on my belly and ran away.
We've been very busy in the nursery! I'm so proud of how it's coming together so far.
We got it all painted the solid color so far (Gecko Green) but still need to work on the wide navy stripe this weekend. Curtains hung!
Bedding is all washed and put on the crib now.

This weekend, Mr. Sunflower gets to tackle this fun job:
Those boxes are the glider/ottoman, dresser and travel system. Dresser is priority so I can start getting all of the clothes out of the closet and organized into the dresser.
My mom bought us the travel system (our car seat from Little Sunflower Bud was pink so that just wouldn't do and Mr Sunflower Bud doesn't love our JEEP jogging stroller as much as I do) and I'm so excited about the stroller. It's the Graco Quattro Tour Reverse and the seat flips to face both forward and backward!
There is a little slide latch on the top of the seat that you slide and push down and it flips the seat to face like this:

Halfway there baby!!

Well now that I'm almost 21 weeks pregnant, I thought I'd post my 20 week update! Sorry for being so MIA lately - I have, as usual, been extremely busy @ work & getting ready for Baby Worry Bud (ie, cleaning our house, registering, getting the nursery together, etc.). I have been in major baby-buying mode lately. Lets see, recently I purchased this awesome Bumble Collection Diaper Bag for 50% off the retail value, which normally is valued around $110!!

I LOVE it & can't wait to put all of Baby WB's cute stuff in it! I also stalk all those daily deal & designer deal baby sites for cute stuff & have snagged a few things - from blankets to stuffed organic toys - from those sites! I love buying stuff for her! And she kicks me every time I second guess a potential purchase, so I know she wants it, hehehehe. She's already getting everything she wants!
Anywho, enough already about my baby-buying obsession, on to the actual baby update! This week marks the halfway point in my pregnancy, woot! Soooo extremely excited to get here considering what we went through to get pregnant! We had our 20 week anatomy scan this past Friday & it was amazing. I was literally in heaven sitting there watching our little girl rolling around in there up on the screen for a little over an hour. I had to change positions & go pee like 4 times during the ultrasound so that the tech could get all the correct measurements. They looked at her brain, heart, hands, feet & several other major organs. According to the Bump, Baby WB is the size of a cantaloupe or about 10.6 oz! At our ultrasound, the tech estimated her actual size based on her head & tummy that she is about 11 oz., so she's just a wee bit ahead, which is all good with her mama. Here is a cute profile shot we got from this past Friday's ultrasound:
I had an OB appointment immediately following & her heart was beating at about 150 bpm (the ultrasound tech said 153 bpm, which I believe is a bit more accurate than the Doppler my OB uses). I met another one of the doctors at my practice, Dr. G - now I have met all three - and I LOVE her. She's so energetic & very nice! She told me that I should probably get registered for breastfeeding & childbirth classes + any others I wanted to take soon because they fill up quickly in my area. Mr. WB and I have also decided to do an infant CPR class - you know, just in case....you never know when those skills will come in handy, even if not with your own child. She also told me that I was doing awesome on my weight gain, which is about 11 lbs. (since 8 weeks when they first saw me at their office), but I think there's another 3 lbs. that I gained in weeks 1-8. So my grand total is about 14 lbs., which according to my books, is completely healthy & on track & my doctor confirmed that on Friday. Did I mention I love her?! She also told me a new OB (a woman) is joining the practice next month & will be delivering by the time I go into labor, so that I'll need to meet her at some point soon too. Next month is the last of my monthly appointments, then I move to twice monthly, which is just another milestone that brings us closer to meeting our precious baby girl in November!
One interesting & somewhat shocking (to me anyways) development - my left ankle was pretty swollen yesterday. I noticed it while working out at the gym - I had capri workout pants on & I looked down to see a left cankle. I was pretty concerned, so I went home and left a message for the triage nurse at my OB's office. She called back pretty quick - asked if I had any headaches or blurred vision, both of which I did not, so she said it's probably due to the hot/humid summer we are having here in my area. She said it happens to a lot of women in their practice because of the heat & humidity in this area & that I should stay off my feet as much as possible & rest with my ankle elevated to relieve the swelling (and also avoid sodium as much as possible). By this morning, it looked much better - just a little swollen still.
So yeah, I'm trucking right along & Baby WB is starting to move a little bit more everyday, which I absolutely live for. It even startles me sometimes how hard she kicks or punches or whatever she's doing in there to her mama. I can't wait till its even more regular & something I can count every couple of hours. Here are my 20 week bump shots (taken actually at 20w1d b/c I forgot to take them on Saturday):

I promise I'll try to be better about posting updates. Ahem, ::looks over at followers in side bar:: I also noticed we now have 100 followers!!!! Yaaay. when we started this blog, just about a year ago now (in about another month), I never knew how many people we would get reading or how well received it would. I'm ecstatic that we now have 100 followers that I think this calls for a summer giveaway! I am gonna see what I can set up - yay! Thanks to all each and every one of you that read & care about us Buds - it truly means much more than you'll ever know. And for that - you guys deserve a reward!

A neat revelation this week is that Little BrainyBud has been on the move! It started on Sunday and felt a lot like a fish flopping in my stomach. Then, each day, he moved more and more. And last night, I felt a distinct KICK! I woke up my husband and cried for joy! I cannot believe this is really happening! I'm half way through this pregnancy, and I'm beginning to love it more and more.

Baby Hopeful Bud is a girl!!

It's amazing how much my life, outlook, thoughts, perception on things has changed in the last 24 hours since finding out we were having a baby girl. In some strange way seeing her on the ultrasound yesterday for the first time made it all the more real. I'm sure the same change in attitude would have happened if we saw that we were having a boy too.
So yesterday when we went for our u/s, I think both Mr. Hopeful Bud and myself knew that we were having a girl, but we both wanted a boy so badly that we never really admitted to each other that we thought it was going to be a girl. :) Wishful thinking sometimes has a way of clouding intuition. When we went into the room with the tech I told her that I didn't want to know the sex of Baby HB until the very end, that we wanted to spend as much time with our
baby as
possible and just wanted to enjoy every moment. So the tech went about her business of finding the kidneys (good!), finding the bladder (good!), beating heart (a beautiful 138 bpm), perfect sized brain, good blood flow through the umbilical cord, everything looked great! Baby HB wasn't moving around much at all, so the tech kept pushing and shaking my belly with the wand saying "wake up little one!" Finally after the fourth shake, she started to wake up, but not before giving the biggest yawn ever. I know I'm biased, but I'm pretty sure that yawn was the most spectacular thing that any baby has ever done before. :) After her big yawn she started kicking and wiggling all over. The whole experience was just precious!! After about 15 minutes of just watching her, the tech said "are you ready to find out what you are having?" We looked at each other and said "yes". Without any hesitation she said "It's a girl!" Of course I was already crying, but started to cry even more upon hearing those words. I guess I never realized how much I really wanted a girl. The tech said she weighs approximately 12 ounces and is measuring right at 20w1d, which is just one day difference then my due date.

The only cause of concern on the ultra sound is that my placenta seems to be too close to my cervix. So the tech requested that I get another u/s at 28 weeks to make sure that my placenta is moving away like it should be. Our doctor said that in 90% of cases, the placenta moves away normally on it's own. My understanding is that if it doesn't move away, this could lead to Placenta Praevia. I guess we will see in 8 weeks. I'm just excited that we get to see our little girl again!
Well, that's about it. Telling friends and family was so much fun. Now we get to start narrowing down name, bedding, thinking about registering. So much to do and so little time!!
Take care and stay hopeful!!

20 weeks have gone by and we are halfway to meeting baby Daffodil Bud. This time seems to be flying by and yet so far from when she will be here. I am starting to get a bit nervous over the fact that we aren’t registered yet and don’t have the big furniture picked out. We do have a cradle that we will be using at 1st when she gets here so if we don’t have the crib set up we will be ok but it is so hard to believe that there is so little time left.

1/2 Way There and a Scary Check Up!

Today marks exactly 20 weeks - 1/2 way done!!! WOHOO! It really has flown by and while I can't say I've enjoyed every minute of it, I sure am having a good experience. Here's to hoping the second half goes as quickly and as smoothly as the first.

Today I also had my monthly check up and without a doubt I've had my first less than pleasant experience. To start, I could have sworn my appointment was at 11:30am so I walk in at 11:25am and the receptionist informs me that I've missed my appointment because it was at 11am.
Great.
My appointment was to meet with the other doctor in the practice just in case Dr. C isn't available at "go time." Great first impression! So the receptionist calls back to the doctor who so kindly agrees to still see me if I'm willing to wait about a 1/2 hour. Thank goodness! So I finally get back to the room and meet Dr. W - she's nice - however I definitely prefer Dr. C. No real particular reason other than she just gives off a different vibe, if that makes any sense.
We do the usual: pee in a cup, blood pressure, any new concerns... etc, etc. Then she starts to tell me that they've looked over the results of my ultrasound from 2 weeks ago and they need to schedule a follow up. What? So what does Mrs. GB do? SHE FREAKS THE EFF OUT!!! I think I went into panic mode instantly - already flustered from being late - I start to ask all kinds of questions. Dr. W kindly calms me down and clarifies that I shouldn't worry that they have to do a follow up ultrasound because all the measurements that they did get looked good and right on track where they should be. It just appears that Baby GB was quite active and was moving around so much that they didn't get everything that they wanted.
Hmmmm... I just have a weird feeling - I hate it - and I'm really nervous. My follow up ultrasound is scheduled for Thursday and while I'm really excited that I get to see Baby GB for a second time, I'm really hoping that what Dr. W told me is true and that I don't need to worry about anything. I am debating on whether or not to call Dr. C tomorrow just to get some reassurance that really they just didn't get all their measurements.
Anyway, today was also the first time that I've had my belly measured. Apparently, from the top of your uterus to the bottom should measure the number of weeks you are + or - 2. So at 20 weeks my belly should measure 18-22 inches... Guess what we're at? 22 inches baby! Normal - but on the large end of the scale :)
AND - last but not least - again, Dr. W had the same tact as Dr. C when talking flu shots and I was again bamboozled. I left with the h1n1 shot. I feel good about it though - granted 2 months ago I was 100% against EITHER shot, I ended up getting both.
Wow... that was quite the update! I'll leave you with what Baby GB is up to this week from thebump.com:

Baby's now the size of a cantaloupe!
Baby gulps down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies respond best to tastes they've already had via amniotic fluid. Meaning, think about what you'd like your future child to eat as you prepare your own lunch.
