Pitiful...

I'm sorry that I just can't seem to stay on top of my blogging here lately...let's blame it on placenta brain an fatigue.

I'm still waiting for the second trimester to turn into the "honeymoon period." I still get nauseated on occasion when I eat something Baby doesn't agree with. The heartburn has luckily calmed way down. But the fatigue! Man. I find myself snoozing at lunch, passing out when I get home and barely being able to drag myself up from the couch to take a shower and go to bed after I see Mr. CBud off to work at 10! We're transitioning to a new Electronic Medical Record system at work and I'm one of the "super users" so my days and evenings have been filled with a lot of classes and training...not helping the sleepies at all! The instructor sounds like the teacher from Ferris Beuler's Day Off. =o)

Anyway, I'm well into my 17th week and will be greeting the 18th on Wednesday. So far Baby is 4.5-4.75 inches long from crown to rump and weighs about 3.5 ounces. The fingernails are well-formed and Baby is starting to accumulate a little fat. (Awwww....)

I had an appointment w/ the OB last week. Everything went well. BP was 110/70. Weight up 4lb since the last appointment. That puts me at 12lb total. A little much for my liking but I'm trying not to obsess about it. I used to be one of those weigh every day girls (because I worked so hard to lose it all in the first place) but I have happily pushed my scale to the back of the linen closet. I'm not eating bad foods, but my salty-sweet cravings have been kicked into overdrive!

I felt the baby move last week!! I was driving to work listening to my iPod and felt some gas-like pains in my lower left abdomen. I didn't pay much attention to it, but when the urge to relieve myself (hehe) never came, but the movement stayed I was like "Hmmmm..." So I took my iPod out, and payed close attention and thump! The baby whopped me! (duh - not too hard) I attributed it to my ever-tightening scrub pants. But ever since then, I've been feeling those same movements all over my lower abdomen. It makes me smile every time I do.

My next appointment is the 19th...time to find out what we're having! I am SO excited and can't wait. I'm taking off a Friday next month so my mom and I can go to my registry.

17 weeks

I am laying here in bed and can feel the baby moving around a lot right now. I have started noticing it moving around at night when everything has calmed down and I am lying still. I am still not really showing. I will have to take a pic next week. My good friend is also pregnant and exactly a month behind me and is showing much more than I am. I am very exited to see a baby bump as well.

This week I have just been thinking about things to prepare for another baby around the house:
     Mr. Lucky Bud has been working on installing a washer and dryer in the upstairs of our townhouse. Hurray! He is almost done converting our linen closet into an awesome laundry for me and the washer and dryer will arrive next Saturday!

     Baby Lucky Bud, now 1 is an official walker now! He started a little at 10 months, but really started walking over crawling just a week ago, and finally is starting to get it down and is doing a great job! This is exciting because he is a heavy boy, weighing the same as Little Lucky Bud, and I was hoping he would be steady on his feet before I am big.
     This week I started thinking about how unorganized the storage room and the closets in the bedrooms were, so I went through EVERYTHING and made a HUGE mess. Now I just need to get it all back into order in the basement and I will be all ready to decorate a room for baby #3.

The biggest change for me this week is that I have been starving! I can't seem to eat often enough, and am too hungry to fall back asleep without a snack anytime I wake up in the night. I have noticed that I need more protein and am making that my big goal for next week.

17 Week Update

Hello 17 weeks!

Belly Measurement/Weight: I am not sure if I have gained more since last week, we do not own a scale.

Physical Progress: My belly is a nice little rounded bump and I LOVE it!

How I am feeling about my body: I feel good most of the time. Sometimes my lower stomach area below my belly button gets really tight and it can be uncomfortable. Also, Baby loves to lay on my bladder so sometimes I have to go pee RIGHT NOW!

Cravings/Aversions: Raw meat smell gets to me lately, my cravings are the same though.

Energy Level: Pretty good, I still love naps though.

Baby Movement: Still a little movement, yay!

Thoughts/Feelings/Emotions: I am enjoying being pregnant. 17 weeks is almost halfway there. It is really exciting.

Mr. BB and I toured the birth center yesterday. We have to drive an hour and 10 minutes to get to this birth center but it seemed nice. We liked it a lot, the nurses we all really nice and the birth center is obviously really supportive of our plans. Visiting the birth center made me more excited to meet our baby.

I got my bloodwork results back from last week and there are no neural tube defects. I am so relieved our baby is healthy!

It has been a quiet week, but I like it. I will report more next week until then I will leave you with my 17 week picture:

Impromptu Anatomy Scan

I feel a little weird doing two posts in a row, but I don't want to leave people hanging after the last post.


Yesterdays appointment with a specialist turned out to be A LOT more than just a consult. I'm so incredibly thankful my husband was able to get out of work in time to join me.


Not only did we get a consult, but we also got an impromptu anatomy scan. They did a Level II u/s looking specifically for the markers of Downs Syndrome, but also did a general check to see how the little one was doing overall. Since I'm far enough along to tell if baby is a boy or girl, we got to find that out a couple weeks earlier than expected as well.


Baby BOY did not have a single marker detected on the ultrasound for Downs Syndrome. Not one. I was especially relieved to see the heart looked perfect given my previous experience with Downs babies.



However, since only 50% of Downs babies have detectable markers in ultrasounds AND our risk ratio was so high (1:10), we did an amniocentesis yesterday. That's really the best way to get a conclusive yes or no answer at this point in the pregnancy. Results of the amnio should be back in a couple of weeks. Yeah, the wait will stink...but I'm feeling so incredibly much better about the situation after seeing Baby Boy pass yesterdays ultrasound with flying colors.


The anatomy scan itself was pretty neat. They looked at everything it seemed. Head measurements, heart, kidneys, toes...you name it. I'm kind of bummed the images of the little guy sucking his thumb didn't make the cut for the CD we got. Also there was one of his little leg and foot that was precious that we didn't get a copy of either. Its really amazing to see how much he's changed in the last month. He's gotten a lot bigger and has a lot more meat on his bones. Finding out the gender was just a bonus, but we're absolutely thrilled. My intuition was right!


The amnio was nerve wracking, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Once I told them we were going to go for it, they whipped out a pre-sterilized kit and got right to business. Everyone gloved up. I got swabbed down. From there they took the ultrasound wand and found where baby was. They got him turned so he was facing away from where they were going to poke and pinned him there by keeping pressure on the ultrasound wand. I didn't watch the needle go in, just kept my eye on the ultrasound screen. The needle prick didn't hurt much more than any of the bazillion blood samples I've given this pregnancy. It was kind of scary seeing a needle in the same tiny space as our little one, but they did really well to stay away from him. I'm under doctors orders to take it easy the next couple days and to go to Labor & Delivery if I have any signs of infection, fluid leaking, or possible miscarriage. Thankfully I've had none of that thus far, just some discomfort at the needle site on par with any other time I've been stuck.

Funny moment after the amnio yesterday: As they were decanting the sample from the needle into vials after the procedure was done, I blurted out, "Wow, it really does look like pee." Classic.

I had an OB appointment today. It was mainly just to check in and to listen to the heartbeat with the doppler. I also (finally) got my results from the NT scan weeks ago.

First the good news: Baby had a heartbeat and it was right on target for 17 weeks (~150bpm). Baby was moving all around in there. I also found out that that strange 'bug walking around inside of me' sensation I've had several times in the last week (and once at 13 weeks!) is, in fact, fetal movement.

Now the bad news: My NT results show that Baby has a 1:10 chance of having Downs Syndrome. To give you some perspective on this, based on age alone my risk was more like 1:400. These are not favorable test results. Based on what I can tell, the risk is largely going by the blood test results since the ultrasound itself showed no obvious problems (measurement was 1.4, nasal bone present, etc).

I have an appointment tomorrow with a specialist in Fetal Assessment. I'm hoping to have them go over the results with me, particularly the blood tests, to make sure that my doctor interpreted them correctly (she told me I was the first patient she'd ever sent for an NT Scan). Beyond that they will more than likely recommend an amniocentesis.

We'll likely go through with the amnio. I don't like the idea as there is a small risk of a miscarriage, but the idea of 23 weeks of not knowing what is going on with our child is even scarier for me. Plus if we are the 1:10, there are specialists who'd need to be seen to check for some other issues common with Down Syndrome babies.

Not going to lie, I'm terrified. My only close association with Downs Syndrome is with a cousin that died as a child of a related heart defect. I know there are wonderful stories out there, and I know firsthand the incredible amount of love Downs children have to share, but I also know that there are very real risks that come with it.

In the meantime, trying to focus on the fact that there is a 90% chance baby is perfectly fine.

I know everyone says this, but this pregnancy really is starting to fly by. I feel like just yesterday I was celebrating 6 weeks and then 8 weeks and now I am moving right along in 2nd tri!

I have had a rough week. Last Monday, I had my monthly OB checkup. I told her about some vision issues I had and my blood pressure was very elevated at the beginning of my appointment. I don't have any real doctor anxiety so I can't attribute it to that. My b/p went back down by the end of the appointment but she wants me on weekly appointments until we can get it in check.

On Wednesday, I had to make an emergency appointment with the OB's office because I was showing symptoms of developing mastitis for the 3rd time since my IVF cycle. This is very unusual and almost unheard of for a non-breastfeeding woman to develop. In fact, both this OB and my previous OB had never seen it in many years of practice. I was noticeably upset at my appointment, so the OB offered to have a breast specialist come in to look at me. He just happened to be working out of their office today. He made me feel a little better about things and he thinks the infection is probably related to the amount of hormones I was on during my IVF cycle. I have to go back for a follow up check after the infection is gone.

On a good note, we scheduled our anatomy scan! It s scheduled on the first day they would see me, 18w (March 9th). We cannot wait to find out what we are having. I am very excited that the u/s office is letting Mr. Sassy Bud's parents come to the scan with us. This will be their first grandchild and they are really looking forward to finding out with us. After the u/s, we will be doing some shopping! I have really resisted buying anything up until now (except for the few great deals I posted about previously).

I'll report back once I know if we are pink or blue!

I never thought I'd say this...

IT'S A BOY!!!!!!!!!

We had our elective gender scan last weekend and I knew immediately when she got there before she said it. You couldn't really deny the shot at all!!!


I was disappointed at first because I wanted Little Sunflower Bud to have a sister and do all those great sister things and I really wanted to be able to get all of her adorable clothes back out and use them again.

Mr. Sunflower Bud, on the other hand, was over the moon happy. There have been no boys on his side of the family. There are 4 granddaughters! His brother and sister are done having children so we were the last chance. Seeing his joy was contagious. It only took me about 2 days to get over my disappointment and embrace the fact that I'm going to have a SON. I get to mother both sexes and that is amazing to me.

My best friend and I went out shopping at Carter's the same day as my ultrasound and Baby Boy Sunflower Bud has the beginnings of a nice wardrobe!


My sister went shopping the next day and bought baby boy a bunch of things already!


My next door neighbor, who is also having a boy, and I are going out shopping Saturday night and having dinner. I'm so excited for this!

Look at my belly grow! So exciting. I can't believe to this day I have a baby growing in there. Its simply amazing. I ask him/her everyday to give me a sign what him/her is. Yeah I get nothing.

Things have finally been easing up. I haven't thrown up in about 4 days. Yay! That's so awesome. Saturday night I threw up some french fries. I think my baby really enjoys eating healthy food. I have been having this vegetable kick. I love corn on the cob and green beans. Really I could eat them every day. And I guess thats a good thing right?

I also know love bananas. Yum! Most fruit I love. I still can't eat chicken. YUCK! But do love breakfast sausage and pork. I have never wanted more breakfast sausage in my life. This poor kid is going to come out wanting a McDonald's Sasuage McMuffin. At least they are only a dollar? But geez the fat is ridiculous. You have to eat what your cravings want right?

I do also love a Pepsi every now and then. I can't believe this. Its not like I didn't like Pepsi before but I can't tell you the last time I drank a real Pepsi before I got pregnant. It had to be years ago.

Sno cones are also on the top of my favorite things. So yummy and so nice and cold and refreshing. I haven't really had any in the middle of the night cravings. I do every now and then have a want for something like candy at night but I just go to bed instead of telling Mr. OB to go to the store to get me some. I can usually fight it with water.

Sleep is beginning to be interesting. I tend to wake up every time I turn to the side. I don't know if its me making sure I don't roll over on my stomach or what.

We did a 5K this weekend. Yep this little old pregnant woman ran/walked a 5K. Who says a pregnant woman can't run? Seriously I loved it. I think my little baby did also. After working out he/she is always moving.

Oh I forgot to tell you about the flutters. I guess about at 16 weeks I felt the first one. It felt like the little one was tickling me on the inside. Its a very interesting feeling that makes me smile every time I feel it. I can't wait until I get to feel the first kick or punch.

On the nursery front we have been busy. We bought this set yesterday:



We bought the crib, the hutch and the 6 drawer dresser. We are also going to get a night stand, a glider (Any ideas on a good one) and some bookshelves.

Looks like one of the big purchases (of the many) are done. We still need to get the stroller, carseat, glider, and a video monitor. So much fun stuff to do!

Countdown to the Ultrasound

I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. :) Somehow life seems to get in the way of my blogging. I honestly can't tell you a whole lot about what I've been doing for the last couple weeks. At least nothing too exciting. Little Daisy Bud has been sick with a cold and also extremely crabby from getting his two year molars in. He has given up most of his verbal skills in favors of shrieking every time he wants something, so it's been noisy around the Daisy Bud house.
I'm hoping that I'm pretty much over morning (all day, in my case) sickness. I still have food aversions to almost everything and haven't yet seen all that energy that is suppose to come with the 2nd trimester.
I had a doctor's appointment on Friday. Mr. Daisy Bud's work schedule got changed around, so I had to bring Little Daisy Bud with me to my appointment. Somehow he managed to be a little angel for my whole appointment. He flirted with the nurses and showed my doctor his treat. Otherwise, the appointment was somewhat uneventful. I didn't lose any more weight (yay!) and was steady from my last appointment. My hemoglobin levels also were good. We heard baby Daisy Bud's heartbeat again. Because the heart rate is definitely faster than Little Daisy Buds, my doctor's guess is that Baby Daisy Bud is a girl. I guess we'll find out March 4th if she's right! I can't wait!

17 weeks & It's a BOY!

Well on Wednesday was supposed to be our 16 week check up appt. Normally the routine is pee in a cup, weight (still the same as pre-pregnancy), blood pressure (perfect), check for HB and just some questions on how I've been feeling etc. This appt. when about the same with the exception that we asked the OB when he would do an u/s. Since I left my RE @ 7.5 weeks the only u/s I'd had were the NT Scan and repeat with the perinatologist. The OB hadn't done one yet. So we asked since our insurance covers all maternity stuff 100%. He looked at my chart and said we could do one at my next appt. (20 weeks). I told him we had an u/s scheduled for 2 weeks from then, our anatomy scan. He said "oh , okay, do you want to do it today?" so of course I squealed YES!
He filled out his form and then sent me across the hall to their other office where they do the scans.
So I got on the table and the tech started checking around. The first thing we got was Baby LB's HB which was 146bpm, then we saw his hand up and saying "hello!", then as she moved around and before she even asked if we wanted to know the sex I already knew what it was :) I said "well, that looks like HIS penis so I'm guessing it's a BOY?"
She said yes and I just started laughing...hysterically. Not the reaction I had planned on having but it's what happened lol. I've been calling Baby LB a "he" since the day I found out I was pregnant. I've always just had this feeling. The funny comes from the fact that I'm usually NEVER right about guessing genders. DH was beyond thrilled, he got very emotional and could no stop grinning from ear to ear all day. The rest of the scan went well Baby was laying on his back so we got a nice profile shot of him. I really think he's going to end up looking like my husband which would be kinda funny since Mr. LB is an exact duplicate of his father. Baby LB has the cutest little nose! I can't stop looking at him.
After the appt. we went to lunch and bought a few items for our boy :)

Re: the pregnancy.
The last couple of weeks have been uneventful except for the baby flutters! Those have been amazing. Aside from still being tired at around 4:00pm every day, I've been feeling good. My next appt. is the 17th for the anatomy scan. My OB says everything looks great and that if everything looks good with the anatomy scan next week we should be good to go!
at our next appt. with the OB we'll have another u/s so it'll be nice to see the LO every 2 weeks.


Re: getting ready for Baby LB!
We've started the process of emptying out the office which will eventually becoming Baby LB's room. It's definitely proving to be a PITA but it's all worth it. I heard from the baby store that the crib will take about 2.5 months to arrive. So the plan is to order it by next month so it will be here some time in mid-May. The carpets in this room need to be re-don so we're hoping to have the room painted before that happens. Painting will most likely be done next month and the carpet change following that. There's a lot to do!

We're both very excited with this very big change. I still thank God everyday for the blessing of our baby. I still really can't believe that I actually get to become "Mommy". It's such a long way from the days that I truly felt it was never going to happen.

When will this ride end?

I don't believe that I'm actually able to post today. I only hope I can make it on at least once a week and not let you down. So here is what has been going on...

We finally sold our home, moved out December 28th, lived with friends until January 15th until our apartment was ready. We are now in our apartment and on the hunt for our "forever home!" We haven't gotten the internet set up at home, so checking the internet has become a pain, hence the longer-than-expected absence from Bloomin Babies.

I finished my first class of graduate school with an "A"!!! I was so proud of myself. Currently taking class #2.Now for an update on Baby BrainyBud...

Week 9
Bleeding stopped for about 6 days and then started back. Baby went on a weekend getaway with me and my mom and it was my secret!

Week 10
Celebrated 4th wedding anniversary and thanksgiving. I was able to take a lot of leave from Thanksgiving-Christmas because I had so much leave time built up.

Week 11
Bleeding began to get worse and started to scare me that I was losing the baby. I was so exhausted for the last 3 weeks, that my body would start shutting down around 8pm.

Week 12
Still bleeding but stopped taking Progestrone. Baby took a trip with mom and dad to the University and mom's frequently traveled to work place. Began having some tummy aches that would last for a few more weeks. Found out that my college friend is due 2 days prior to me and a friend from church is due 2 days after me. Had my 3rd OB/GYN visit. Baby is perfectly healthy with NO reason for the bleeding. Baby was moving arms and legs so fast, I thought it was the heartbeat to begin with.

Week 13
Came down with a MAJOR ear infection! The doctor said that I was beating my little one to it. He said it was like a 2-year-old's ear infection. YUK. I felt terrible! The baby even went with us to the Nutcracker Ballet. The bleeding finally stopped sometime during this week.

Week 14
We finally announced our pregnancy at Christmas, everyone was so excited and surprised! It was the most scarest thing we've ever had to say to family. We moved the day after Christmas and no one let me do anything! Even though I had been packing for weeks prior.

Week 15
Still announcing to people and still exhausted. New Years was interesting.

Week 16
Baby's first snow and won't be able to see it. Mr. BrainyBud went sledding on the day that was supposed to be our 4th U/S but was rescheduled due to the snow and ice. Went to the dentist and he gave me a set of "Baby's First Toothbrushes" for our impending little one.

Week 17
I began to worry because I have NOT gained ANY weight. I wondered if something was wrong all week. Had our 4th U/S that lasted 15 minutes but only took the tech 2 seconds to announce...

Already dreaming of next Christmas

It brings a huge smile to my face when I think that next Christmas we will have a 6 month old in the family. It only brings a little anxiety when I look at our already packed truck and try to picture how we are going to fit a car seat plus all the things that go with baby in it next year for the 3.5 hour drive to Wichita to see my family. I'm sure it will all work out some how.

Baby Hopeful Bud got quite a few presents this year. The best was from my mom. She cleaned and fixed one of my baby blankets and gave it to us. It will be a perfect one to lay Baby HB on the floor on. Santa brought Mr. Hopeful Bud a onesie that said "I'm kind of a big deal!" My uncle from NYC gave the baby a NY Yankees onesie, bootie and hat. If Baby HB is a girl, we will just have to replace the hat with a big bow. The LO also got a couple bibs, teething toys and an adorable snuggie.

As for how I am doing at 17 weeks, all I can say is great! I feel wonderful. I'm so excited to hear Baby HB's heart beat again this week (Wednesday). While the Bella Band is a life saver, I'm thinking it's getting almost time to go invest in some maternity jeans, because I'm starting to get a little uncomfortable.

17 weeks down and lots of excitement

One more week is almost done in the 40 week wait to little Daffodil Bud's arrival.

This week I had a doctors appointment where of course I got to hear that sweetest little swishing sound of baby's heartbeat. Things are progressing normally and the heartbeat was 140 this week. So far I have only gained 2 lbs but my weight is shifting to where people say they can tell I am pregnant and not just my normal overly fluffy self.

The biggest event so far for this week was getting the big ultrasound scheduled. Next Friday the 27th, Black Friday, instead of joining the madness of shoppers we will be sleeping in and then going to see if our baby will co-operate so we can find out if this is a Boy or if it is a Girl.

Thankfully we have a few things happening before Friday so I can not obsess for a whole week about the ultrasound. My baby brother is a senior in high school this year and he and the rest of the football team are still in the playoffs for the state championship. They play this Saturday for Semi-Finals at 1pm so there is that fun and then of course Turkey Day on Thursday.

Of course if my brother and his team beat their opponent this Saturday then it is on to the state championship game at Ford Field in Detroit on Friday afternoon so Friday may be a busy busy day.

So hopefully next week I will have lots of exciting news to report. Until then here is the 17 week "bump" picture :) 

17 Week 6 Days...

... 1 day until the BIG ultrasound! I already know I won't be able to sleep well tonight.

I've got all sorts of things running through my head -

• Is it too early to tell?
  
• Is everything ok?
  
• Why haven't I felt this baby move?
  
• Why haven't I popped yet?

Ugh! Hopefully not only will tomorrow's u/s tell us what team we're playing for but I'm hoping it'll ease my mind (for the time being anyway) that everything is okay with Baby GB.

17 Weeks

Baby GB is now the size of an onion!


Baby's skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it. His umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and those little fingers and toes now feature one-of-a-kind prints.

We are anxiously awaiting next Monday's BIG U/S! 7 days to go - I have absolutely no intuition if we are having a boy or a girl. A lot of my girlfriends think that we are having a girl. Mr. GB's family, along with my mom and sister have a feeling it's a boy and my dad doesn't want to know! To be honest, I think Mr. GB and I are really hoping for Team Blue - but really, I'll be just as ecstatic with Team Pink. :)


With that, I thought I would put some of the Old Wives Tales to the test:

• If you are carrying your baby high, then it is a girl. If you are carrying your baby lower, then you are having a boy. - Honestly, I can barely tell if I'm showing yet! Not that I want to push my appointment back but I wish it was closer to 20 weeks instead of 18 so I'd be showing more.

• Chinese Gender Calendar - Predicts Team Pink

• If your feet are colder when you are pregnant, then you are having a boy. If you feet are not any colder than before you are pregnant, then you are having a girl. - Definitely been COLDER since getting KU! I'm usually always hot, and I've been freezing lately!

• If our baby's heart rate is above 140 beats per minute, then you are having a girl. If it is below 140 beats per minute, then you are having a boy. - HB has been right around 140 each of the 3 times we've heard it so far.

• If your chest development has been dramatic in your pregnancy, then you can expect a girl. If your chest development has not been that much, then expect a boy. - Lots of development here! I've went up two cup sizes already!

• If you are craving sweets and fruit, then you are having a girl. If you are craving salty foods and meats and cheeses, then you are having a boy. During the first trimester all I wanted was fruit and sweets. Now all I want is salty!?!?!

• If the hair on your legs is growing faster than it did before you got pregnant, then you are having a boy. If your hair on your legs is growing at the same rate as it did before, then you are having a girl. - Faster (I blame this on the PNV but hey, we'll go with it!)

• Attach a ring or needle to a thread and dangle it over the mom-to-be's belly while she is lying down. If the needle or moves in a circle then she is having a girl. If the needle or ring moves to and fro back and forth, then she is having a boy. - This has been done on multiple occasions - Mr. GB dad and a few of our friends predicted girl, but when Mr. GB held the string it predicted boy?!

• If a woman is said to look worse when she is pregnant than she did before she was pregnant, then she is having a boy. If the woman looks better in appearance while pregnant, then she is having a girl. - I can't really speak for this one without sounding conceited but I have gotten a lot of compliments since getting KU. (Granted, I have lost weight in my face and arms. I've also cut and colored my hair?! All of which could be contributing factors?!)

• Women who carry boys supposedly do not having as much morning sickness as women who are carrying girls. - Absolutely no morning sickness.

Well... if you were keeping track that is: Team Pink - 3, Team Blue 3, and Team ??? - 4... hmmm????

I'm sure there are others that I missed - if you want me to answer them I GLADLY will! :) Those are the one's I could find or remember and I have to say, they sure weren't much help!
