I never, in my life, thought I would see two lines on a pregnancy test. I thought it wasn't in the cards for me. We never took a HPT when we did our fresh IVF cycle last fall. I knew there was a risk of getting a false positive, so we waited for my beta.
This time, though. I couldn't wait. I took my first HPT on Friday, April 27th as soon as I woke up. I didn't even tell Mr. Bossy I was going to do it. Like I said- I'm a chicken. This is what I saw.
I couldn't believe my eyes. I began shaking and before I knew it, I was sobbing. I scared Mr. Bossy half to death when I stood next to the shower holding out my positive pregnancy test. He thought something was wrong. Boy, was he ever wrong.
We spent the weekend doing fun activities; all the while knowing that my beta was on Monday. We kept our secret under wraps. We didn't want to spill the beans before family knew, and we had also decided that we would not share our good news with as many people this time. Just to be on the safe side.
I bought picture frames and typed up this little poem to put inside:
Next January-
In this place
You can a picture
of your
grandchild's face!
We presented my mother with hers on Saturday night (my dad was already in bed due to working early the next morning). She knew my beta was on Monday, but I wanted to surprise her in a fun way. She didn't even have the wrapping paper completely off before a smile spread across her face. She was totally shocked! I put the frame next to my dad's sink so that he would see it first thing in the morning when he woke to shower and brush his teeth.
We gave Mr. Bossy's mom her frame on Sunday when she stopped by to visit. Her reaction was- What does this mean? I politely told her to infer (she can act really stupid at times), and she was able to figure it out.
I decided to take my second HPT this morning before I left for my RE's office. Even after Friday's positive result, I was still scared to death. I kept telling myself over the weekend that maybe that stick was telling a lie!
This is what I saw:
The vertical positive line had gotten darker!!!
My nurse notified me earlier today that my beta is 319. I return on Wednesday for my second one. We're being cautiously optimistic. We sure hope this little one sticks around for the next 9 months!
Please pray for a good, strong number on Wednesday. :)

Embies on board!

As I mentioned in my last post, I had my ER on Sunday. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. We did however get some bad news right before I went into surgery; Mr. Plannerbud's sample was low (just about 3 million) that we had to do ICSI, which our insurance may not cover. We had to decide whether we would take the chance and possibly have to pay $2500. It was a big decision to make when I was already nervous, but we decided to go with it since it meant a 75% of fertilization. That decision made, I went into surgery. They were able to get 12 eggs! We were so excited.
The next day or so I was uncomfortable, but Mr. Plannerbud was amazing. He waited on me all week and helped to make me as comfortable as possible. All of this was made even better by our fert report: 7 out of the 12 fertilized. We were very excited, and so were my parents. My dad kept telling me that he hoped the "kids were playing good in nursery". It is so great that are on board with all of this.
Three days later, on Wednesday, I went in for the transfer. I pulled out all the stops and had pre- and post-transfer acupuncture at the clinic. Mr. Plannerbud and I are hoping this will be our one and only IVF, so we are doing everything we can. After my first session, the doctor transferred two embryos; one was 10 cells, one was 8, both were considered high implantation potential and had no fragmentation. The nurse who was working with me was hilarious and had me almost in tears during the whole process.
We are now in the waiting process. I go in for my beta on May 15th. Mr. Plannerbud and I are going back and forth on whether to test before it or not. Hopefully my next post will my BFP!
As a parting gift, a picture of my possible future children:

So this past Friday Mr. DB & I closed on our first house and began moving in! Needless to say all Friday, Saturday & most of Sunday was spent cleaning, painting, moving & unpacking. Since my mind was completely consumed with the new house I had little time to realize that the 2WW was over. It finally hit me Sunday night that I could test. I of course immediately ran over to the nearest drug store & bought the early response. When I got home I took the test and there is was a faint line. I didn't believe it, so I took another and the same result. I took them in to Mr. DB and asked him if I was seeing things. He smiled and told me I was pregnant. I still couldn't believe what I was seeing! Monday morning I got up bright and early to have my blood drawn to verify. On the way home I decided to get a digital to make sure. Of course the digital screen popped up with Pregnant!
I called yesterday morning to get the results of my first beta & it was 58. They told me to get another blood test done this morning to make sure everything was going right. So this morning I took my 2nd beta & I am anxiously waiting to see if I am doubling!
I can't describe how excited and happy I am to know there is/might be our little miracle growing inside me.
So far my symptoms have included being ridiculously tired all the time (i sleep like 10 hours a night & still need an afternoon nap), my breasts are very sore, I feel super bloated (a little constipated, sorry I know TMI), and I have had a little morning sickness but not too bad.
If all goes well with my 2nd beta results I will be able to break the news to my mother at Disneyland!!!! Which will truly make her vacation!

Cautiously optimistic...

is probably the one phrase that would describe me right now. I cannot help to be optimistic after our first IUI, even if Mr. PB's numbers weren't great for both. I just feel great that we are actually doing something productive to help ourselves. I know feeling so positive will make getting bad news even harder, but I can't help it.
Now for all the numbers:
IUI #1 on Sunday 12/27: post-wash sperm count 10 million, but 75% motility
IUI #2 on Monday 12/28: post-wash sperm count 22 million with 4 progression, which according to the Fertility Bits blog:
how the sperm swim in a linear direction. Progression scores range from not moving (0) to rapid linear movement (4). All fresh (non-processed) and frozen thawed semen samples generally have individual sperm that exhibit all progression scores. The average progression score for a fresh or frozen thawed semen sample is between 2 and 3.
I had some cramping on Sunday afterward and more on Monday, but today I woke up with nothing. I did have to go to the dentist and let her know that I couldn't have an x-ray which prompted her to make all sorts of comments about me being pregnant, including commenting how much gums were bleeding (they bleed every time). Oh well.
I have my beta test January 10th with a follow-up appointment with my RE at 1. Hopefully they will have the results in time. I am desperately going to try not to test until then, but I know it won't happen. Part of me wants to test right now just so that I can see a positive, even though it would be a false positive because of my Ovidrel.
Fingers crossed! I wish you all a great New Years and I hope you all get everything you want in 2011.
